about

This track was the hardest to ever create, write and record.

It has been two years since the unfortunate and untimely passing of somebody that I consider my best friend, and this has honestly been the hardest thing for me to do.

Before I elaborate further on the song itself, I'd like to express a huge thank you to Jake's parents; Joules Humm & Cheryl Clark, for giving me their blessing and for allowing me to pay tribute to a true legend that is forever missed.

Inspired by Eminem's "You're Never Over" which served as a tribute to his best friend and D12 member Proof; I created a song which would serve as emotional and also creative, which finally allowed me to express my grief in the best way that I know how, which is through the music.

With this being said, I would like to stress that me rapping on this song does not in any way, shape or form indicate that I am going to be returning back to rap anytime soon; and that isn't what I'd like to be seen as or known for during this time.

But I know that this is something that Jake would want me to do, and I'd like to thank him especially for giving me the courage to sing, rap and give him the best send-off that I can give.

All proceeds from the track will be donated to "MIND", a charity picked by Joules Humm and also something dedicated towards mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

lyrics

Verse 1:
It's been a couple years since I've lived without you
I thought I'd be able to do it but I was doubtful
If only I could change back the hands of time
I'd still have you, what I'm gonna say is a mouthful
You've always been a brother, and regardless of the colour
You were Proof to my Eminem, we always had each other
Taking care of your father, taking care of your mother
And I hope that you can hear me when I tell you that I love ya/
Resilient J, you became King of the Castle
Before there was a CM17, there was Marshall
Before there was the tragedy, I found myself in happiness
Going back to back with you, it always made me happy yes
It's hard to fight back the tears in this rhyme
I remember where I was when I heard that you died
But you'll never be forgotten, as I look up to the sky
And I promise I'ma keep my head high

Chorus (Jake's chorus) x2

Verse 2:
No matter what I do, no matter what I say
Your legacy will live on, you're still inside my brain
I wish I could have saved you from the darkness in your head
Cos there were so many hearts that were broken that day
I took it very personal and beat myself up
And ever since they laid you down to rest, it's all love
And the day we meet again, it's gonna truly be amazing
Maybe I'll never believe it; but I know I got an Angel/
i can call on, I gotta keep pressing on
Picking up the pieces of my heart just knowing that you're gone
To anyone that's lost their best friend, slap the music on
Never give up your dreams dawg, I got love for you all
Jake I'll always miss you, tears fill up these tissues
Guessing it was time to say goodbye, you know I miss you
And I swear on everything that I'ma carry on your legacy
So when my time ends, this is how they will remember me

Chorus (Jake's chorus) x2

Chorus (x2)
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you Jake
I miss you
